Faculty of Commerce
First established as a Faculty of Commerce in Makerere University, Makerere University Business School (MUBS) has grown over the past 25 years to become the leading provider of business and management education institution in the region. The Faculty of Commerce became a fully fledged Faculty in 1987. Before, it was a Department in the Faculty of Social Sciences. The Faculty of Commerce is highly respected for pioneering private sponsorship programmes in Makerere University in 1991 starting with one Bachelor and one Masters Degree.
In 1997, MUBS was created out of the merger between the Faculty of Commerce, Makerere and the National College of Business Studies, Nakawa. The School was therefore established as a constituent college of Makerere University (under the College order of 1997). MUBS has transformed from a one degree programme institution to one with 19 bachelors degrees programmes, 13 masters degree programmes and 3 doctoral progammes. This has led to the raise in students numbers from 100 to over 17,000 students currently.

Faculty of Computing and Informatics
The Faculty was created in August 2006 as a result of the growth in the University necessitating the birth of new units to be able to coordinate and over see different programmes and has three (3) departments in a stimulating environment with excellent computing facilities

Faculty of Procurement and Logistics Management
The Faculty of Procurement and Logistics Management was formulated in July 2022. The formation of the faculty was driven by the need to manage the growing number of students. The faculty consists of two departments; the Department of Procurement and Supply chain Management and the Department of Transport and Logistics Management. Besides the departments, the faculty collaborates with the industry which helps the students not only to obtain class room knowledge but also practical knowledge.
Faculty of Tourism, Hospitality & Languages
The Faculty of Tourism, Hospitality, and Languages (FTHL) comprises the disciplines of Travel & Tourism, Leisure Events and Hotel Management, as well as Elective and Audited Languages. These programs are meticulously curated and consistently reviewed to ensure their alignment with the dynamic demands of the professional landscape, fostering adaptability to the ever-evolving Tourism and Hospitality industries.
Over the years, the Faculty has solidified its reputation as a leading training ground, producing a cadre of highly skilled and professional graduates in the fields of Tourism and Hospitality. Many alumni have ventured into entrepreneurship, establishing successful businesses, while others have become influential business leaders in their specialized domains. Additionally, a significant number have made noteworthy contributions across various sectors within the industry.
Faculty of Vocational and Distance Education
The Faculty of Vocational and Distance Education ( FVDE) is in charge of the overall management of the Diploma and Certificate programmes at MUBS, the academic activities of Arua and Mbale Regional Campuses and oversight of the Private Institutions affiliated to MUBS. It also coordinates the running of the postgraduate Diplomas in Education. The Faculty is also mandated to coordinate the LUZIRA In-mates programme as part of the School’s overall Social Corporate Responsibility Programme.
